I am just downright lazy when it comes to getting my act together to blog to you. I don't think it's because I'm boring (although I probably am!); I just don't tell you about my boringness.

Life is not quite so boring at the moment though. Mike is away on a bushwalk; Gabi is going to Melbourne on Friday for a Young Leaders Day (being run through the school); Ben is rehearsing to be part of a choir (they're performing some of Handel's Messiah) and we have a house guest! One of our cousins, Nicole, is staying with us for a few days while she does some nursing coursework at Monash Uni in Churchill. And I'm back to looking for that highly elusive, externally paid employment. :P Other than that, it's pretty run of the mill, regular life here.

Catch y'all again later. Maybe I might do some crafty stuff and blog about that... :)LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-9416329426589932322011-02-04T12:03:00.002+11:002011-02-04T12:08:39.639+11:00First day backand Mike left his notebook at home. *facepalm*

I asked the obligatory :"Does everybody have everything?" as we exited the front door to get to the bus.
"Yes Mum!" they chorused.
"Ok off we go then, " said I as we climbed into Gus. (Gus is our Ford Territory; it's short for Angus, because he's just a little bit fancy.) The children head over to the bus stop, with their friends, to wait for the bus. I have a quick chat to some of the other mums and then go and do the grocery shopping. As I pull up in the driveway, I get a text from Mike asking if his notebook is on the table. And it is. He says he can manage for the day without it, so we'll see how his first day back was when he gets home. Lol.LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-81082617150297799112011-02-03T07:21:00.003+11:002011-02-03T07:31:04.457+11:00It's good to be home...Oh, alright, I haven't really been anywhere that would explain my looooong absence from blogging, but I like the quote. Yes, it is a quote (from ST:Enterprise). I remember silly things like that. I have the mind of a steel trap...a trivia trap!

I'm currently waiting anxioulsy to see if I have managed to join the ranks of the profitably, paid externally, employed. I saw an advertisement in a local shop window and put forward my application. I was interviewed. The sign is now no longer there, and I am waiting for the call!

School starts again tomorrow. The holidays went quite quickly! Too quickly for Mike (my son) and not quickly enough for Gabi (my daughter). :D One of Gabi's school friends rang her yesterday to find out if they were going to be in the same class! Remember when that was your biggest worry? We're all set to go here; lunchboxes are clean, bags are packed and uniforms have been tried on and found fitting.LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-70007648096480515332010-10-11T17:42:00.008+11:002010-10-11T18:10:04.374+11:00A new look!

You might have noticed that I have changed the look of my blog! Finally the dragon has arrived. I didn't even realise that that was what he was going to look like!

I have always wanted a dragon of my very own, for nearly as long as I can remember. I even named my blog with that in mind. I have almost no drawing skills (except stick people and stick animals; you want stick people, I'm your woman! :D) so this magnificent dragon comes as a complete surprise, even to me!

Gabi wanted a new applique for her plain doona cover. So we talked about what she could have and she wanted a dragon, a butterfly and a bow and feathers for the pillows. So I designed what I thought the dragon should look like. And I was surprised by how good my tiny sketch looked. Gabi liked it, so I scaled it up and cut it out of paper.

We gave him a precious orb to hold on to, but he didn't look quite finished. Gabi suggested a nimbus for him to sit on, so he got one and looked like this:
Now, we were down to the tricky parts: fabric selection and then the sewing. We riffled through my fabric stash and Gabi chose the materials that appealed to her the most. When that was done we had this:

Then I ironed the pieces onto some iron-on adhesive and steadied my nerves for the sewing ahead. I was so scared that my good-looking dragon would come out crooked or warped! I tested my stitching on lots of scrap pieces to get the tension and stitch width right and then I committed!

I was so glad in the end! I think he looks fantastic and I am so proud of myself! :D (Don't worry, this is most likely a fluke and I may never do this well again! :D) But here, take a look for yourself and tell me what you think in the comments!

LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-55209437058677536472010-09-06T21:40:00.002+10:002010-09-06T21:49:52.937+10:00Things I've been working on No.2

Okay, here are the pictures! I've been frustrated in my plans this weekend! Well, not all of my plans, just some of them. I found a post on how to print your own fabric last week and I really, really wanted to try it. I was patient, however, and waited until I had to do the shopping to get the last vital piece of equipment: wax paper. I found wax paper in the supermarket, and got it home. After finishing up some other things, I got out the wax paper, iron and a test piece of calico. I let the iron heat up and applied it to the paper (wax side down against the fabric, I'm not THAT silly!) and then...nothing. There wasn't enough wax on the paper to melt and stick to the fabric! Grrrr! Now I have to hunt for really waxy paper. I'll let you know how I get on...LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-8170559294477481072010-08-31T11:46:00.003+10:002010-08-31T11:52:01.821+10:00Craftystuff. I've been finding heaps of it lately!

First of all there's CraftGossip(http://craftgossip.com/) which has loads of awesome stuff on it. Heaps of freebies and links to tutorials to stuff I'd have never thought of doing at home! Okay, I mostly just watch the tutorials, or flick through the pretty, pretty pictures, but if I ever wanted to do any of them, now I know where to go!

Thanks to CraftGossip, I have found the blog of an inspiring woman. She's 82, and loves to sew and quilt. You can find a link to her blog in the blogs I follow. Her blog name is Funoldhag. She's got some amazing projects up there. Check her out. Please.

On the topic of crafty stuff, my husband made me a light box! Now I can trace patterns without having to hold them up to a window. Way cool! Thanks, honey!LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-48286377577181920812010-08-12T15:41:00.004+10:002010-08-12T15:48:04.488+10:00News!Hello again. As some of you will know, Gabi has been diagnosed with scoliosis, or curvature of the spine. It's not a painful condition for her, it's just that she's twisted. No, really, her spine is quite curved but everything else is in perfect working order. There's no nerve issues or anything like that and her back is otherwise fine. We don't know why she's growing crookedly, she just is. However, we do have to go and see a scoliosis specialist because of the degree of the curve in her back. So we're off to Melbourne next month to see what treatment she's going to need! Before we can do that, Gabi has to have an MRI, so we can have a complete picture of her back. We've been told this will take about 45 minutes and that she's welcome to take a CD to listen to while the MRI is in progress. So, what suggestions do you have for a Gabi's Scoliosis Scan Session cd? I was thinking Twisted by Brian McFadden...

I know, I'm mean! :PLadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-41071607276409619662010-07-30T11:36:00.002+10:002010-07-30T11:44:47.046+10:00I must confess......to several things. Number one is that I'm jolly slack when it comes to updates.

Number two is that I have more photos of stuff I've made to upload, but again, I've been jolly slack about it.

And number three is perhaps the most embarrassing. I'm a Rick Astley fan. Again. I was one in my youth, when he was big in the '80s and here I am, nearly wetting my knickers over his new single, Lights Out. I adored his Cry for Help and Sleeping (okay so that one's much more recent and I may never have stopped being a fan!) and this new one is great. You should check it out. Really. One of the best things about the '80s is back and I'm a fan, and I don't care how naff it is. :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMau-DXAeMU is where you'll find Lights Out.LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-49684974205235761342010-06-17T11:13:00.002+10:002010-06-17T11:21:05.387+10:00Things I've made recently No.1Here are some pictures of cross-stitches I've finished recently:

Mum's Mothers' Day picture.
A ninja because I thought it was cute.

A vampire that doesn't sparkle. I can't believe how slack I've been about blogging! Bad me! :D

We've still been doing heaps of stuff; we've had quite a few trips to Sale lately. Mike had a recital a couple of weeks ago and Gabi's year put on a couple of plays last night. (They're performing them again today for the rest of the school.) Junior Jazz band is going well; they even let me sit in and play too! :D Mike's getting a new clarinet today, and we're going to be on the lookout for a trombone for Gabi too. Ben's got new suspension for his car and he's thinking about doing a hill climb soon. As for me? I'm looking for a job and I went into a florist's yesterday and handed over my resume. (There was a position vacant sign in the window, I didn't just pick a florist's on a whim!)

Holidays are upon us from Monday. The kids are ready for a break and we're going on a road trip! Well, the kids and I are anyway. We'll go and catch up with my grandparents for a couple of days while Ben slaves away at a new coal face. No, really, he's moving over to a different mine.

GTG. Be back later with a new post!LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-86806691445647581432010-05-20T12:22:00.002+10:002010-05-20T12:40:25.940+10:00How time flieswhen you are busy living!

We've been busy with soccer and music and running around like chickens with our heads cut off!

This last week has been really quite hectic. (Now I'll list everything and it just won't seem very busy at all! *rolls eyes*)

On Friday last week Mike and Ben went down to Melbourne with most of Mike's soccer team to see Kevin Muscat's Testimonial match. (Kevin plays for Melbourne Victory and has spent 10+ years at the club, so the club threw him a celebratory match. Nice, eh?) It was Melbourne Victory against a Come & Play XI. At the second last minute, Ben called and said I'd have to go instead of him, because work wasn't going to finish in time. Then at the last minute he called again and said he was done for the day and he could go. Where was I? Had I passed him yet?

No, thank goodness, I had not! I took my car and the kids in it to meet him and swapped out. I picked up his car and came home and had a nice quiet evening with Gab. Gab, interestingly, got hooked by the movie that was showing that night, The Lakehouse. She'd like to see how it ends, sometime. I found this quite amusing, as Gab normally isn't one for girly chick-flicks. She doesn't like all that gushy romance stuff, and hides whenever kissing scenes come on to the screen in other shows. I think it was the time shifting that caught her attention. We shall see when we get to watch it all!

Tuesdays are now looking to be quite busy. This Tuesday Gab started playing with the Junior Jazz Band at her school. Tuesdays are also soccer training days. I have to pick Gab up by 5pm from rehearsals (which are about 50kms away from home!) and Mike has to be at the soccer ground about 1km from home, by 5pm. There is no late bus for Gab to catch, which means I have to drive to get her. To get to her rehearsals by 5pm, I must leave home no later than 4.30pm. Which is also the time Mike arrives in Traralgon on the regular bus. So I must have afternoon tea ready for him and all his soccer gear out, before I go. It also means that Mike has to get himself to the grounds. Which isn't so bad, except for when notices have to go out. I'm the team manager for Mike's soccer team, so I have to prepare all the notices. *sigh*

Thursdays are also quite busy. I help out the daughter of some friends with her maths on Thursdays, from about 4.30pm until 6-ish. Mike also has soccer on this day, and Gab always has a vocab/spelling test on a Friday, which means revision on Thursday. Just a bit busy on a Thursday...

I know that it doesn't sound that busy when it's all written down like this; but when I'm in the middle of it, it's just go, go, GO!

GTG now. Stuff to do!LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-76149700552144284842010-04-23T14:46:00.003+10:002010-04-23T14:56:40.808+10:00Awesomest concert ever!Last Friday, Ben and I went to see Jamie Cullum at the National Theatre in St. Kilda. It was just amazing! (For those of you who don't know Jamie, check out http://www.youtube.com/jamiecullumworld; I just love his cover of Don't Stop the Music and We Run Things Another Way is *sigh*)

He was just great to watch. Very energetic and involved with the audience. Towards the end of his show he came up to the back section of the theatre and performed Cry Me A River, and mixed in some of Justin Timberlake's Cry Me A River. His band came up too (a snare drum, trumpet, sax and double bass) and Jamie got people to get closer and dance and then we all went down to the front section of the theatre and moshed to Mixtape! It was just so much fun that I was sad to reach the end of it... but we had a great time and look forward to Jamie returning so we can take our kids to see him!LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-57583909666913873302010-04-12T12:00:00.002+10:002010-04-12T12:09:10.111+10:00I've been away for a long timeand I don't really have a good excuse! I just got caught up in living that I didn't stop by here and tell you all about it.

Oh well. I'm going to do better; I really will.

We've had a fairly good year so far. We've visited Tassie and had some of Tassie visit us; some of us have been to Canberra and visited some art; we've even just stayed in the one place for a time!

This is just a quick post to let you know I am still here, and I will return!LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-58626774715044614752009-07-15T08:54:00.003+10:002009-07-15T09:05:14.560+10:00Droids at the Exhibit.

These are some of the droids that were at the Star Wars Exhibit. They had little cards near them that told you all about the actual piece as well as lots of information on how the exhibit was relating to our actual world and on the role the piece plays in the Star Wars Universe. Especially knee high boots. For as long as I can remember they have been my favourite footwear.

What does this have to do with the topic? I hear you ask.

Well, I can tell you exactly when my love of knee high boots started. It was the first time I saw Han Solo's boots in Episode IV. I love those boots. I want those boots. I'll never get them, but I have seen them now. On Friday we went to Melbourne to see the Star Wars exhibition at the Scienceworks museum (which is awesome, btw) and the boots were part of the exhibit. *sigh* I have a photo of the boots, and a photo of the whole Han Solo costume, which I shall post soon. But I saw them, and they were beautiful. *sigh*. I still want those boots...LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-76399251359261153672009-06-22T08:17:00.004+10:002009-06-22T08:40:26.412+10:00I've seen it!

I did go and see the new Star Trek movie and I loved it! I thought it was fantastic. It was different to the book in some aspects (ie the Admiral Archer's dog incident) but it was very enjoyable.

*Spoiler Alert* just in case I tell you stuff about it you didn't already know...and *Geek/Nerd Alert* because I'm probably going to discuss the whole AU-ness (alternate universe-ness) of the movie.

I really enjoyed the opening sequence of the movie where you met George Kirk. In fact, I almost think that Chris Hemsworth (who plays George) should nearly have been James T Kirk. He is (IMHO) better looking than Chris Pine (who was James). Anyway, that part of the movie was really well done. (It was very definitely AU, as George and Winona Kirk were potato farmers in Idaho in the Shatner Kirkverse. )

My favourite character in the whole movie was...Scotty. He was funny and I just enjoyed his whole situation; punished by being sent to the middle of nowhere for being too smart. I also really liked Dr McCoy. Ben thought that he was almost more Bones than the original. Karl Urban really nailed it. At least he still had the same reason for going into Starfleet as in the original universe, as we found out when he meets Kirk for the first time. (The dialogue in the movie novelisation was much wittier for this scene than in the movie.)

It was a surprise to see Real Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in this universe, but it worked well in the plot development. A nice touch, and I think that this picture at the top sums it all up, tongue-in-cheek... (thanks to roflrazzi.com for the caption!)

All in all I loved this movie and I would see it again and own it on DVD. (If only for the entertainment value of irritating my husband...*smirk*)

LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-3312516292233486992009-06-11T21:33:00.002+10:002009-06-11T21:38:39.334+10:00MoviesI am so very excited. This Saturday I might finally get to see Star Trek! I can't wait. I've read the movie novelisation and I loved it. I just realised that there's kind of a bittersweet bit in it for me. Most of you who know me, know that I adore Star Trek: Enterprise. Especially the character of Captain Archer. Well, he at least gets a mention in the new movie, and one of his pets appears in the movie, right at the end. I realised the other day that he never gets to see his favourite beagle again because of *insert spoiler*. That made me kind of sad. :'( However, I still want to see the movie. I can't wait to see Scotty! Woohoo for Simon Pegg.LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-30132687827809085522009-06-05T12:12:00.005+10:002009-06-05T13:23:31.888+10:00Cars. *sigh*As many will know my husband has a hobby. Cars. Restoration and racing, although both may not apply to the same vehicle.

At the moment I have six cars in my driveway. Six. There's my little, everyday car (a Peugeot 306), Ben's work car (a dual cab Hilux, supplied by his employer), Ben's old work car (a Ford Falcon RTV ute), Ben's restoration project ( a 1967 XR two door Ford Falcon, left hand drive), his racing car (a white Peugeot 405 Mi16) and the new car, a donor car (a black Peugeot 405 Mi16).

As for how we came by so many cars, I really don't know. It just happens. I should never let the man look on ebay motors! That's where we (and yes, it was partly my fault) found the XR and the black Peugeot.

On Sunday Ben went down to Phillip Island and took his toy for a spin. He did okay, he wasn't the fastest, but he wasn't the slowest either. He was really happy with the way that the Pug cornered and braked, but he just didn't have enough get up and go for the straights.

On Monday, he was trawling Aussiefrogs (an Australian Peugeot site) and various other motoring sites for parts to correct this problem. I said: "Let's have a look on ebay motors." So we did and I found a 1992 Mi16, just like his toy except that it was black. It was going cheap, and the sale ended the next day at about 9pm. So we kept watch on it.

On Tuesday, we checked out the auction and it was still cheap, so we placed a bid on it. Then we had to go out to dinner (see previous post) so it was down to Mike to keep an eye on it. And he did. And he placed bids for his father. And we won! Oh joy! Another car!

(Really, I do not begrudge my husband his hobby. At all. He can have as many cars and parts as he wants, as long as he still loves me at the end of the day. )

So yesterday Ben went to collect his prize. He says that the car body isn't as good as his toy's, but the engine is better. So hopefully, soon, I'll have five cars in my driveway, not six.LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-8297002374924792422009-06-05T11:50:00.004+10:002009-06-05T12:12:36.091+10:00Tuesday NightAs many of you know, we've had some communities devasted by bushfires over here in Victoria. A lot of people will have heard of Kinglake and Marysville but less about Callignee and Traralgon South. There were fatalities there too, just nowhere near as many as Kinglake and Marysville.

Well the local Rotary groups decided that the people who fought the fires there in Callignee and Traralgon South and the people and groups who are helping to rebuild these communities deserved some public recognition. So Rotary went and caught up with Max Walker and asked him if he would come and be the guest speaker at an awards night for these people. And Max said yes, and he wouldn't charge them an appearance or speaker's fee. So on Tuesday night Ben and I went off to dinner, dancing and Max Walker.

It was a really good night. The band was great (loud, but great) and both Mike's music teacher and Gabi's music teacher were playing; the singer was an impersonator who did really good impressions of Dean Martin, Tom Jones and John Lennon (we left early, so we didn't see if he did anyone else) and Maxie was really funny. Everyone who got a certificate of recognition (or thanks) also got their photo taken with Max. It was a good night.LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-19144529959206287952009-05-20T18:07:00.002+10:002009-05-20T18:10:01.057+10:00I've found it! I am working on a dragon design from the creator of the Dragon Musings blog (she creates wonderful designs, some of which she lets you download for free!) in blue for my daughter. I am also working on an embroidery of a cat in a garden called The Cat nature's beauty and I have a Tatty bear design to finish as well. (The Tatty bear came as a kit with a magazine.) I have also just ended up with some 11 kits from Spotlight (see my last post) that I would love to do and a Sorceress chart that I will have to buy the material and floss for that I really, really want to do, but it will take me ages to get it done, because it's just so detailed.

I love doing it though. I like seeing a project come together, and having something that I made to share with others. *Passes out warm fuzzies for everyone* I will have to post some photos soon...LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-3902174559116985822009-05-06T19:26:00.002+10:002009-05-06T19:36:33.772+10:00I love SpotlightHey! Long time no blog, I know! In my defense I have been busy, being a mum and doing the odd bit of temping and research...but I just have to tell you about the Spotlight store in Sale. It was having a sale! It had two big clearance tables out the front, and when I visited Sale yesterday, I gave them the go over. Found loads of stuff that I would have liked to buy, but it was still too expensive...so I went in to have a browse...and while I was in the store they announced that if you went and got a bag from the staff member out the front who would write $8 on it, then you could have as much stuff from the clearance tables as would fit in your bag, without overflowing or breaking the bag! Well, did I have fun! I ended up with twelve cross stitch kits and at least eight charts/books, two copies of a DMC programme to convert photos to charts, a mini scrapping tote, an organiser bag, several expandable folding wallets and more stuff than even I could poke a stick at! (I later added up the price tags on the items and found I had bought about $200 worth of stuff, at sale prices, for $8!) It was amazing... *sigh* I may even post photos of my haul later...LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972834152933072261.post-24252137043088818142009-03-25T09:38:00.003+11:002009-03-25T09:43:13.893+11:00Tempingis an interesting occupation. I have recently signed up with an office labour hire firm in Traralgon and have had two temping jobs since. They were both babysitting jobs, i.e. go in, sit in the office all day and mind the phones and the walk ins, leave messages for the appropriate people and go home again. The second temp job was incredibly boring. There were virtually no phone calls to answer (and I don't count the boss calling to check in as a real phone call) so for the second day of that job, I actually took work that Ben needed to get done with me and did that. I am hoping that this sort of work might lead to a part time position somewhere, but at least it will look good on my resume. I have been applying for jobs in the area, but I guess it's an employers' market at the moment...LadyJanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16789513943147035288noreply@blogger.com1
